@NEPABlogCon Launches New STEM Education Camp for Girls in the Pocono

by / May 27, 2015

Press Release: NEPA BlogCon, the region’s only blogging and social media conference, is excited to announce the launch of its girls’ STEM education camp: Squirrel Girls Tech Camp.

To be held at Lackawanna College from July 13-17, 2015, Squirrel Girls Tech Camp will offer the opportunity for girls in grades 4 through 6 to explore STEM topics in an encouraging, creative, and confidence-building environment. It is co-organized by TecBRIDGE, a regional collegial organization that collaboratively strives to create and embrace entrepreneurial opportunities with the purpose of growing technology and biotechnology wealth within Northeastern Pennsylvania.

The curriculum incorporates a variety of media and hands-on activities, including lessons on 3D printing, computer science and programming, animation, game creation, digital music, robotics, internet safety, and digital etiquette.

The camp will be open to 20 registrants at a cost of $50 per child. A limited number of scholarships are available for families unable to pay the registration fee, thanks to the generous support of NEPA BlogCon attendees and sponsors. Scholarship applications, as well as registration details and forms, are currently available here.

Squirrel Girls Tech Camp continues to seek volunteers for camp chaperones and instructors, as well as assistance for marketing, logistics, and accounting. For more information on how to volunteer, as well as information about the camp, see  camp page.

NEPA BlogCon is the region’s only blogging and social media conference. It is designed to bring together bloggers of all experience levels, as well as those interested in marketing, social media, creativity, leadership, and branding. Now in its fourth consecutive year, NEPA BlogCon has drawn hundreds of attendees to the region from blog local communities and the tri-state area. A non-profit event co-sponsored by TecBRIDGE, NEPA BlogCon has raised more than $7,500 to benefit community organizations including Blue Chip Farms Animal Refuge, NEPA Veterans Multicare Alliance and the Arc of Luzerne County. Since 2014, all proceeds from NEPA BlogCon have gone to support the foundation and launch of Squirrel Girls Tech Camp.
